All Creatures Great and Small: Our Pet Blessing Service
All creatures great and small
Whilst the Rector is away the Curate will play! This meant that whilst Revd. Wendy was away on Sabbatical, Revd. Emily Sharman and a number of the community of St Lucy's hosted All Saint's first ever Pet Blessing Service.
Pet Blessing Services are a wonderful opportunity to thank God for the gift of animals, and for us to ask for God’s blessing on all that they have made. A blessing is where we wish that spiritual good fortune will go with what is blessed and dedicate someone or something for a sacred purpose. A blessing also reminds us that all good gifts are gifts from God.
We asked members of our community to bring either their pet or an image of them if it wasn't possible for them to attend.
We sang hymns and heard readings about God's creation and the many animals they gifted to us. We also prayed together, giving thanks for their many wonderful qualities, as well as our lamenting over animals which have suffered or not been cared for well.
After our animals were each blessed, we committed to stewarding creation and all its creatures well. It was a truly fun and delightful service filled with laughter and love for our animal friends.
